Currently, students of the field of Civil Engineering carry the following activities:
- Study of the properties of liquids. Students experimentally determine the buoyancy force acting on bodies of different volume and density. They then compare these values with the values calculated from the theoretical formula,
- Study of the swimming of partially submerged bodies. During the activity, students measure the deflection of a floating pontoon when changing the position of its centre of gravity. Based on the measurements, they determine the metacentric height and determine the stability of the pontoon's swimming,
- Hydrostatic pressure test. During the activity, students determine the positions of the centre of pressure based on the balance of torques caused by the pressure and weight of the suspended weights,
- Study of pressure losses due to friction. By doing this activity, students measure the pressure drop in straight sections of pipelines for different flowrates. On the basis of measurements, they determine the dependence of the coefficient of friction losses on the Reynolds number and compare it with the relationship obtained on the basis of theoretical calculations,
- Test of operating configuration of centrifugal pumps. Students measure pressure and efficiency gains for two pumps working individually and the same pumps connected in series and in parallel. Based on the obtained results, they plot the flow characteristics of single and cooperating pumps, which allows students to familiarize themselves with the benefits of the way they are combined,
- Study of water flow through pipeline networks. During the exercise, students measure the pressure drop in the pipeline system, which allows them to determine the resistance of various configurations of the pipeline network.
Hydrological stand. This stand makes it possible to carry out experiments on water infiltration in soil and to determine the filtration coefficient, i.e. the ability of the soil to let water pass through it if there is a difference in pressure.
